Higuain Transfer Fee Reportedly $650,000

+

Ryan Kozlowski at Crewture.com dug up an article from Argentina that said the Crew paid over half a million dollars in transfer fees for Federico Higuain. That is certainly out of the norm of the Crew, given most of their recent signings have been free transfers. As for the veracity of the information, it's tough to get information out of MLS about the business side and Argentine sports papers can be unreliable, but this came from a business magazine. I'd say there is a fair amount of truth behind the figure.

Crew Presenting Pride Night on Aug. 25th

+

Even with some of the furious debates swirling through the body politic, the Crew are again working to outreach to the GLBT community. The team held Pride Cup and an event at a home game in July 2011. Pride Cup isn't returning, but they are advertising a group ticket deal for those interested in attending the game. This is one of many community specific focused events the team has held this year. The team had Military Appreciation Night in June. Later this year, the club has a Faith and Family Night is on September 1st. Hispanic Heritage Night is again when Chivas USA comes to town, on September 19th.

Wil Trapp Heads to Northern Ireland

+

Midfielder Wil Trapp has been a Crew Academy player to keep an eye on for a while. He is a standout underclassman prospect at Akron and has played for just about every U.S. youth team there is. He will head to Northern Ireland to play in the Milk Cup with the U-20's. He's probably the most exciting Crew Homegrown prospect and well worth watching.

Anor Out For the Year

2

Bernardo Anor suffered a torn ACL in the 63rd minute of Saturday's game. He stayed in to finish, reminiscent of Frankie in 2006. He had just gotten his first start at left back after transitioning there over the past month. Anor's injury leaves the Crew short handed on the left side. Nemanja Vukovic had been the starter before his benching. Josh Williams, Julius James, and Carlos Mendes have all played left back on occasion during their careers.
