After a 50 minute delay from the earlier fire, the Crew broke out to a 3-0 halftime lead behind goals from Dominic Oduro, Josh Williams, and Federico Higuain.
The Crew first struck in the 14th minute after Eddie Gaven fired in a pass to Arrieta. The Costa Rican's controlling touch gave him a bit of space and he drilled a cross to an onrushing Oduro to make it 1-0.
Columbus would double their lead in the 26th as Eddie Gaven released Jairo Arrieta on a 60 yard pass that forced a United corner kick. Federico Higuain's dipping service found the foot of Josh Williams. Williams' shot pinged past a diving Bill Hamid.
Just before halftime, Gaven fed Arrieta in the box. Jairo was tripped up and Higuain, after a stutter step, sent Hamid the wrong way and cooly slotted the ball home.
